Hi Families!
The first few weeks of Kindergarten have been wonderful! It has been such a fun experience getting to know your kiddos. We have been completing some assessments to gauge where students are academically, and now that we have this data, I will be able to tailor my lessons around the specific needs of our learners! This will be an exciting, and challenging time as we transition into new areas of learning! It is essential that school and home learning are connected!
You may be asking: How can I help support my student's learning? As we begin new skills, I will post what we are learning about and how you can help at home! This blog will be in addition to our weekly newsletter, where I simply provide topics of learning, while here I will go more in depth with ideas!
This week in Reading we are working on letter sounds. Students need to know the sounds each letter makes, as well as the short and long vowel sounds. This will be an ongoing process as we begin to build foundational skills that will help us become readers. At home, you can ask students the letter names and sounds by creating flash cards, or any fun ideas you may have! You can also search letter sound videos on YouTube! One fun song we do in class is See It, Say It, Sign It by Jack Hartman. I've included the link for you to try at home!

This week in Math we are working on addition facts up to 10. At home you can create addition problems with nearly anything in your home! Cotton balls, blocks, or even shoes can becomes easy manipulatives for you to practice addition facts at home! Another idea is to create real life scenarios that involve basic addition, and see if your student can add the numbers! A silly video we love in class is the Addition song! Thank you so much for your continued support and collaboration!
